Become is the national charity for care-experienced children and young people. We put young people at the heart of everything we do, helping them be powerful agents of change in their own lives, the care system and society. We help them understand their rights and entitlements so they can get the support they need now, develop their skills, access education, and overcome challenges they face. We amplify young people’s voices and empower them to speak out and campaign for change, so that the care system works better for all children and young people, now and into the future.
We are more than a helpline – we provide follow up and ongoing support for children in care and young care leavers, supporting both their practical and emotional needs and working with other organisations to make sure they get anyfurther support they need.
We provide specialist 1:1 advice and ongoing support to care-experienced young people with many aspects of accessing and navigating Further and Higher Education. Our coaching programme helps young care leavers to unlock their own potential for positive change, giving them the tools to move forward positively in their lives. We host free workshops for young people about rights and entitlements of care leavers, and post-16 education.
We also deliver practical training to individuals and organisations that work with children in care and young care leavers. Our training is designed in collaboration with care-experienced young people to ensure their voices and opinions are heard.
Our work to improve the care system is always delivered alongside young people with experience of care. We have a wide range of opportunities for young people to get involved, to share their views with decision makers, shape our communications and campaign together for changes in the care system.
